The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity invites us to enter the deepest mystery of our faith: One God in Three Divine Persons — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
In the Gospel, Jesus commands His disciples: “Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:19). This reveals that the Trinity is not an abstract idea, but the very life of God shared with humanity. At the Baptism of Jesus (Matthew 3:16-17), we see the Son in the Jordan, the Spirit descending like a dove, and the voice of the Father proclaiming His beloved Son. Likewise, St. Paul blesses the Church saying, “The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with all of you” (2 Corinthians 13:13).
The great theologian St. Thomas Aquinas taught that within God there exists a perfect communion of love. The Father eternally gives Himself to the Son, the Son receives and returns that love to the Father, and the Holy Spirit proceeds as the bond of divine love between them. Thus, the Trinity teaches us that love is at the center of God’s very being. God is not loneliness, but eternal relationship and communion.
St. Augustine once tried to understand the Trinity and realized that the mystery of God is greater than the human mind can fully grasp. Yet, while we may never completely explain the Trinity, we can experience the Trinity through prayer, worship, and love. Every Sign of the Cross reminds us that we belong to the Father who created us, the Son who redeemed us, and the Holy Spirit who sanctifies us.
As we celebrate this beautiful solemnity, may we live as true children of the Triune God, allowing His divine love to shape our hearts and guide our lives each day. “Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.”
La Solemnidad de la Santísima Trinidad nos invita a adentrarnos en el misterio más profundo de nuestra fe: un solo Dios en tres personas divinas — Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo.
En el Evangelio, Jesús ordena a sus discípulos: “Ir y hacer discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándolos en el nombre del Padre, del Hijo y del Espíritu Santo” (Mateo 28:19). Esto revela que la Trinidad no es una idea abstracta, sino la propia vida de Dios compartida con la humanidad. En el Bautismo de Jesús (Mateo 3:16-17), vemos al Hijo en el Jordán, al Espíritu descendiendo como una paloma y la voz del Padre proclamando a Su Hijo amado. De igual manera, San Pablo bendice a la Iglesia diciendo: “La gracia del Señor Jesucristo, el amor de Dios y la comunión del Espíritu Santo sean con todos ustedes” (2Corintios 13:13).
El gran teólogo Santo Tomás de Aquino enseñó que en Dios existe una comunión perfecta de amor. El Padre se entrega eternamente al Hijo, el Hijo recibe y devuelve ese amor al Padre, y el Espíritu Santo procede como el vínculo de amor divino entre ellos. Así, la Trinidad nos enseña que el amor está en el centro del propio ser de Dios. Dios no es soledad, sino relación y comunión eternas.
San Agustín intentó una vez comprender la Trinidad y comprendió que el misterio de Dios es mayor de lo que la mente humana puede comprender completamente. Sin embargo, aunque nunca podamos explicar completamente la Trinidad, podemos experimentar la Trinidad a través de la oración, la adoración y el amor. Cada Signo de la Cruz nos recuerda que pertenecemos al Padre que nos creó, al Hijo que nos redimió y al Espíritu Santo que nos santifica. Mientras celebramos esta hermosa solemnidad, que vivamos como verdaderos hijos del Dios Triuno, permitiendo que Su amor divino forme nuestros corazones y guíe nuestras vidas cada día.
