Sunday’s Readings: Acts 8:5-8, 14-17; Psalms 66:1-3, 4-5, 6-7, 16, 20; 1 Peter 3:15-18; John 14:15-21
PEOPLE OF HOPE
Throughout this Easter season the readings have drawn us into the experience of the early church. We have tasted the excitement and zeal of the first Christians. Now, with them, we listen to the words of Saint Peter, who reminds us that when people notice that we are people of hope, we should be ready to explain why.
This challenges us. Do others even notice that we are people of hope? In a world often marked by cyn-icism and hopelessness, do we stand out as people who offer hope and reas-surance to others? In today’s Gospel Jesus promises that when he leaves the earth he will not leave us orphaned. Today he promises to send his Advocate, the Spirit of truth who will be with us always. Let us acknowledge the presence of the Holy Spirit and ask the Spirit to make us people of hope.

PUEBLO DE ESPERANZA
A lo largo de esta temporada de Pascua las lecturas nos han llevado a la experiencia de la iglesia . Hemos probado la emoción y el celo de los primeros cristianos. Ahora, con ellos, escuchamos las palabras de San Pedro, que nos recuerda que cuando la gente se da cuenta de que somos personas de esperanza, debe-mos estar listos para explicar por qué.
Esto nos desafía. ¿Se dan cuenta de que somos personas de esperanza? En un mundo a menudo marcado por el cinismo y la desesperanza, ¿nos destacamos como per-sonas que ofrecen esperanza y tranquilidad a los demás? En el Evangelio de hoy Jesús promete que cuando salga de la tierra no nos dejará huérfanos. Hoy promete enviar a su Abogado, el Espíritu de la verdad que siempre estará con nosotros. Reconocemos la presencia del Espíritu Santo y pedimos al Espíritu que nos haga personas de esperanza.
