Saints for a New Generation: Carlo Acutis & Pier Giorgio Frassati
On September 7, in the grand setting of St. Peter’s Basilica, Pope Leo canonized two luminous witnesses for our age: Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati. Their stories, though separated by almost a century, converge in one powerful truth: holiness is not reserved for the few, but is possible for all who open their hearts to Christ.
Saint Carlo Acutis (1991–2006)
Carlo, a teenager from Italy, grew up in a normal family, went to school, loved video games, and enjoyed time with friends. Yet at the heart of his life was a burning love for the Eucharist. He once said, “The Eucharist is my highway to heaven.” Carlo attended daily Mass, prayed the Rosary, and lived with simplicity and kindness.
Gifted with computers, he used technology to build a website cataloging Eucharistic miracles from around the world. While many see the internet as a place of distraction, Carlo saw it as a tool for evangelization. His short life—he died of leukemia at age 15—has become a beacon for young people, showing that faith and holiness are not outdated, but alive, modern, and possible even in the digital world.
Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901–1925)
Pier Giorgio, nearly a century earlier, was also Italian and deeply joyful. He loved mountain climbing, sports, and friendship. He was strong, adventurous, and full of laughter. Yet beneath this energy was a heart completely given to Christ.
Pier Giorgio devoted himself to the poor of Turin. He gave away money, food, and even his own clothes to those in need, often in secret. His spiritual strength came from prayer, the sacraments, and a vibrant interior life. He was called “The Man of the Beatitudes” because he lived the Gospel so naturally. His motto, “Verso l’alto”—“To the heights”—captured both his love of climbing mountains and his desire to reach the heights of holiness. He died at just 24, yet thousands of poor people attended his funeral, testifying to a life spent in love.
These two saints speak to youth, to families, and to all who long for a faith that is alive and courageous. Their lives echo the same invitation: holiness is possible here and now.
May Saint Carlo Acutis and Saint Pier Giorgio Frassati intercede for us, that we too may live lives of joy, generosity, and holiness in our own time.

San Carlo Acutis (1991-2006)
Carlo, un adolescente de Italia, creció en una familia normal, fue a la escuela, amaba los videojuegos y disfrutaba del tiempo con amigos. Sin embargo, en el corazón de suvida había un amor ardiente por la Eucaristía. Una vez dijo: “La Eucaristía es mi camino al cielo“. Carlo asistía a
misa diariamente, rezaba el Rosario y vivía con sencillez y amabilidad.
Dotado de computadoras, utilizó la tecnología para construir un sitio web que cataloga milagros eucarísticos de todo el mundo. Si bien muchos ven Internet como un lugar de ditracción, Carlo lo vio como una herramienta para la evangelización. Su corta vida, murió de leucemia a los 15 años, se ha convertido en un faro para los jóvenes, mostrando que la fe y la santidad no están de
sactualizadas, sino vivas, modernas y posibles incluso en el mundo digital.
San Pier Giorgio Frassati (1901-1925)
Pier Giorgio, casi un siglo antes, también era italiano y profundamente alegre. Le encantaba el montañismo, los deportes y la amistad. Era fuerte, aventurero y lleno de risas. Sin embargo, debajo de esta energía había un corazón completamente entregado a Cristo.
Pier Giorgio se dedicó a los pobres de Turín. Regaló dinero, comida e incluso su propia ropa a los necesita dos, a menudo en secreto. Su fuerza espiritual provenía de la oración, los sacramentos y una vibrante vida interior. Fue llamado “El Hombre de las Bienaventuranzas” porque vivió el Evangelio con tanta naturalidad.
