“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and worried about many things… Mary has chosen the better part.” – Luke 10:41–42
Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, This Sunday, Jesus lovingly reminds Martha—and all
of us—that while our service is valuable, the most important thing is to make time to be with Him, to listen, and to rest in His presence. Like Mary, we are invited to choose “the better part.”
This balance of prayer and work is beautifully captured in the spirituality of St. Benedict, the father of Western monastic life, who taught his followers to live by the motto: “Ora et Labora”— Pray and Work. For St. Benedict, prayer and labor are like two hands that must work together in harmony, each supporting and enriching the other.
As part of the Year of Jubilee, I will begin a pilgrimage to sacred Marian and apostolic shrines on Sunday, July 20, and I will return on Sunday, August 3. I will visit Fátima, Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes, Rome, and Medjugorje. At each of these holy places, I will have the joy of celebrating Mass and lifting up your intentions in prayer. I carry each one of you in my heart and promise to pray for our entire parish family at every shrine.
While I am away, I kindly ask for your prayers—for my journey and especially for the repairs now beginning at St. Mary’s Church and Parish Hall. These essential works will address water damage and structural concerns and must be completed before the rainy season returns.
We are grateful for your generous support and continued prayers to help keep our parish strong and beautiful for generations to come.
Let us be both like Martha in service and Mary in devotion, living the spirit of Ora et Labora, united in Christ during this sacred time.

“Marta, Marta, estás ansiosa y preocupada por muchas cosas… María ha escogido la mejor parte.” – Lucas 10:41-42
Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo: Este domingo, Jesús le recuerda amorosamente a Marta, y a todos nosotros, que si bien nuestro servicio es valioso, lo más importante es hacer tiempo para estarcon Él, escuchar y descansar en Su presencia. Al igualque María, se nos invita a elegir “la mejor parte”.
Este equilibrio entre la oración y el trabajo está bellamente capturado en la espiritualidad de San Benito, el padre de la vida monástica occidental, quien enseñó a sus seguidores a vivir según el lema: “Ora et Labora” – Rezar y trabajar. Para San Benito, la oración y el trabajo son como dos manos que deben trabajar juntas en armonía, cada una sosteniendo y enriqueciendo a la
otra.
En el marco del Año jubilar, el domingo 20 de julio iniciaré una peregrinación a los santuarios sagrados marianos y apostólicos, y regresaré el domingo 3 de agosto. Visitaré Fátima, Santiago de Compostela, Lourdes, Roma y Medjugorje. En cada uno de estos santos lugares, tendré la alegría de celebrar la Misa y elevar vuestras intenciones en la oración. Llevo a cada uno de ustedes en mi corazón y prometo rezar portoda nuestra familia parroquial en cada santuario.
Mientras estoy fuera, les pido amablemente sus oraciones, por mi viaje y especialmente por las reparaciones que ahora comienzan en la Iglesia de Santa María y el Salón Parroquial. Estas obras esenciales abordarán los daños causados por el agua y los problemas estructurales, y deben completarse antes de que regrese la temporada de lluvias.
Estamos agradecidos por su generoso apoyo y ora ciones continuas para ayudar a mantener nuestra parroquia fuerte y hermosa para las generaciones venid eras.
Seamos a la vez como Marta en el servicio y María en la devoción, viviendo el espíritu de Ora et Labora, unidos en Cristo durante este tiempo sagrado.
