Confirmation
The prophets of the Old Testament foretold that God’s Spirit would rest upon the Messiah to sustain his mission. Their prophecy was fulfilled when Jesus the Messiah was conceived by the Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. The Holy Spirit descended on Jesus on the occasion of his baptism by John. Jesus’ entire mission occurred in communion with the Spirit. Before he died, Jesus promised that the Spirit would be given to the Apostles and to the entire Church. After his death, he was raised by the Father in the power of the Spirit. Confirmation deepens our baptismal life that calls us to be missionary witnesses of Jesus Christ in our families, neighborhoods, society, and the world. . . . We receive the message of faith in a deeper and more intensive manner with great emphasis given to the person of Jesus Christ, who asked the Father to give the Holy Spirit to the Church for building up the community in loving service.
In the Sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized person is “sealed with the gift of the Holy Spirit” and is strengthened for service to the Body of Christ.

Los profetas del Antiguo Testamento predijeron que el Espíritu de Dios descansaría sobre el Mesías para sostener su misión. Su profecía se cumplió cuando Jesús el Mesías fue concebido por el Espíritu y nacido de la Virgen María. El Espíritu Santo descendió sobre Jesús con motivo de su bautismo por Juan. Toda la misión de Jesús ocurrió en comunión con el Espíritu. Antes de morir, Jesús prometió que el Espíritu sería dado a los Apóstoles y a toda la Iglesia. Después de su muer- te, fue resucitado por el Padre en el poder del Espíritu.
La confirmación profundiza nuestra vida bautismal que nos llama a ser testigos misioneros de Jesucristo en nuestras familias, vecindarios, sociedad y el mundo. . . . Recibimos el mensaje de fe de una manera más profunda e intensiva con gran énfasis dado a la persona de Jesucristo, quien pidió al Padre que diera el Espíritu Santo a la Iglesia para edificar la comunidad en el servicio amoroso.
En el Sacramento de la Confirmación, la persona bautizada es “sellada con el don del Espíritu Santo” y fortalecida para el servicio al Cuerpo de Cristo.
