The Anima Christi
The Anima Christi is a prayer from around the 14th century. It was possibly written by Pope John XXII, but its authorship remains uncertain. The prayer takes its name from its first two words in Latin. Anima Christi means “the soul of Christ.” The Anima Christi was popularly believed to have been composed by St. Ignatius Loyola, as he puts it at the beginning of his “Spiritual Exercises” and often refers to it. However the prayer has been found in a number of prayer books printed during Ignatius’ youth and is in manuscripts. It is still widely used after receiving the body and blood of Our Lord, Jesus Christ in Holy Communion. For this reason, we will start (as the body of Christ) to recite the prayer after communion. Alma de Cristo
El Alma de Cristo es una oracion de alrededor del siglo catorce. Probablemente fue escrita por el Papa Juan XXII, pero su origen permanence desconocido. La oracion toma su nombre de sus dos primeras palabras en Latin “Anima Christi.” Por mu-cho tiempo se ha pensado que San Ignacio de Loyola es su autor, puesto que al inicio de sus famosos ejercicios espirituales aparece dicha oracion. Sin embargo esta oracion ha sido encontrado en algunos otros libros espirituales del tiempo de su juventud. La importancia de esta oracion ha hecho que se use por siglos especialmente al recivir la Sagrada Eucaristia.
